Enchantment at Old Man’s Cave

Would you like to see where the devil takes his baths in the Hocking Hills? Well, this recent heat wave must be due to him visiting and taking a soak. I can’t say I wasn’t tempted to hop in for a quick cool down as well on a recent trip to Old Man’s Cave. I began my hike at the upper falls and enjoyed the cooler air down by the rocks.

I am always amazed at how beautiful and diverse it really is in Southeast Ohio. At the the Hocking Hills State Park the waterfalls, creeks, rock formations, and natural life bring such tranquility. I love the Eagle rock and since I was little it’s always been fun to go through the short tunnels!

Old Man’s Cave is a must visit if you come to Hocking Hills. The trails for the upper and lower falls are not overly taxing, with the hardest areas just being the steps up and out of the natural gorge area. There are so many little stops and places to see along the trail. It is interesting to read about the history and how this natural wonder came to be. I would caution you as a visitor or local to stay on the trails!

Old Man’s Cave is one of seven main trails located within the State Park. You will begin at the upper falls and complete a one way loop. This trail is around 1 mile to 1.5 miles depending on if you complete the lower falls portion of the trail. I am excited to see the new lodge that is to be completed sometime in 2022 and the newer visitor center is quite impressive compared to one I grew up visiting. Old Man’s Cave is truly a magical place to visit and explore. Make this a MUST on your next visit to the Hocking Hills.
