Applesauce Cake
Appalachian spiced cakes, nothing beats them around the holidays. We have had a family cake recipe in our family that has been a favorite for many years and that is our Applesauce Cake! This is a great recipe for fall and winter time. It smells amazing and has the spices of fall time and Christmas. It is great to eat in the morning with a hot cup of coffee.
Ingredients
1/2 Cup Crisco or Vegetable Shortening
1 1/2 Cups Sugar
1 Egg
1 1/2 Cups Applesauce
2 1/2 Cups Flour
1/2 tsp. Salt
1/2 tsp. Cinnamon
1/2 tsp. Cloves (ground)
1/2 tsp. Allspice
1 Cup Walnuts
1 Cup Raisins
1 tsp Baking Soad
Directions
In a large bowl cream together the Crisco and Sugar. Add the Egg, mix well. Add the Applesauce and mix well.
In a second large bowl mix together Flour, Salt, Cinnamon, Cloves, Allspice, Walnuts and Raisins.
Put Baking soda in 1/2 cup of boiling water, dissolve.
Alternately add flour mixture and soda water to sugar mixture. Mix well. Bake in a greased bundt pan for about 1 hour at 325 degrees. (Check at 45-50 minutes.)
Once you’ve got it baked and cooled put it out on a pretty cake stand and before you know it everyone in the house will be eating it up. It wasn’t even cooled all they way and the kids were cutting pieces for themselves.
