An Autumn Porch

The front porch. This is an important area of the home. You can neighbor watch, storm watch or even have a place to enjoy some quiet. It is a place to gather as a family and make memories. My Mamaw and Papaw’s porch was always an important place. Being one of over 20 grand kids there was always a group of us on the porch. Papaw in the glider, Mamaw peeling potatoes and all of us kids eating watermelon with salt and spitting the seeds as far as we could! If you have a front porch use it! Our last house we lived right up on the main road, but we still enjoyed our front porch. We would watch the thunderstorms roll in and sit on the swing in the evening. It doesn’t matter whether you are in the country or right in town.

This fall I plan to spend as many nice days as I can on the porch. Reading, watching the squirrels and just sitting and talking with my kids. These are some of the most valuable ways to spend our time. Autumn is a reminder to me to get outside and enjoy the last warm days of the year.
