Ohio History Center Museum
Needing a quick trip out of the house? A great place to visit is the Ohio History Center Museum. I took my teens and they had a lot of fun, but even younger kids will enjoy the visit. When you enter there are a couple areas that you can visit inside. They have a geological and natural history of Ohio section with a full size mammoth skeleton! Our favorite area inside was the 1950’s Lustron home. It was so fun walking through the house and learning about how the post war era developed and how society met the challenge of changing housing and norms.
The museum focuses on the history of Ohio with many different artifacts to view. There are early life examples of Ohio, war artifacts, old fire engines and train cars. You could spend hours just reading and examining pieces.
The best part of the museum lies outside of the main building. When you walk outside you enter the Ohio Village and step back in time. This was our favorite part of the visit. There are old homes, stores, a beautiful brick church, a bank and even a pharmacy. I am not posting many photos here because I want you to be surprised by the experience! My teens loved going in each building and the best part were the volunteers dressed and in the role(s) as an individual of this 1800’s village.
You can find the Ohio History Center at 800 E. 17th Avenue Columbus, Ohio. You can find admission fees and hours located on their website.
