Day of Light – Cedar Falls & Ash Cave

What is it about Saturday that begs the soul to find adventure. Today we found ourselves craving time outside. Winter is drawing to an end and we put on our hiking boots and headed for the Hocking Hills. 45 degree weather and lots of sunshine is just what we needed to nudge us out and about. We stopped for smoothies and tea at Hocking Hills Nutrition in downtown Logan, Ohio. This was our first visit and the kids and I were all impressed with the taste. I had the raspberry lemonade and will be getting it again.

We were then on our way out to Cedar Falls and Ash Cave. You can tell that tourist season is beginning to kick into full gear. Lots of cars at all the hiking locations. Despite this we wore our masks, kept our distance and everyone was very respectful in this way. There are many trails and options when going to the Hocking Hills. The kids and I love Cedar Falls. It is an easy hike and no major cliff areas so the kids can explore a little more freely. The worst part of the hike is the climb back up to the parking area. We were lucky enough that there was still ice hanging on the cliff sides to view.

Ash Cave has been a fun place for the kids and I since they were very little. The entire trail is handicap accessible and has a sidewalk leading to the cave and waterfall. When the kids were younger we would always bring some buckets and shovels and spend time playing and enjoying the breathtaking view.

We spent a few hours exploring before heading home. Cedar Falls and Ash Cave are right around the corner from each other and easily fill the afternoon. If you plan to visit I suggest you check out the State Park website (https://thehockinghills.org/). I hope that your weekend has been enjoyable and challenge you to get outside and enjoy the sunshine.
